Liam Mifsud won the the third and last Under 18’s World Ranking Tournament of the season beating Steve Muscat 8-4 in the final. Mifsud kept his momentum winning the last three tournaments of the category and consolidated his number one spot in the ranking list.
Dejan Grech crowned European U/23’s Champion & Mens Team C claim Team C Category
Every beginning has an end and another European Championships have just gone by. Once again Malta left its mark achieving great results.
Mens Team C managed by Joe Aquilina lifted the trophy of the category while the Mens Team A and the Under 23’s were only defeated in the final.
Dejan Grech conqeured the Under 23’s singles category and also achieved another impressive result reaching the semi finals of the Mens Singles Championships together with Ray Caruana.
Three Maltese players won the best Player of the Tournament for their categories. Lyden Debono in the Mens A category, Antione Aquilina in the Mens C Category while Scott Muscat grabbed the Under 23’s category award.
Next international event is the World Championships being held in Blackpool, England, between the 29th June and 10th July where the association will be sending three teams representing our country in the Mens, Under 23’s and Over 50’s categories.
Qormi United makes it a double winning the Christmas Cup Tournament
Qormi United grabbed their second title of the season this time beating PL Fgura in the final of the Christmas Cup Tournament. In the final Qormi United overwhelmed PL Fgura with a convincing 11-6 victory and secured their first double of the season.
The winning team was composed by Anton Cuschieri, Johan Attard, Miguel Falzon, Kevin Mercieca, Dejan Grech, Troy Zammit, Phillip Zammit and Scott Muscat while PL Fgura’s team included Manuel Mallia, Brian Grech, Stanley Domenici, Marco Bonello, Ian Grech, Wayne Farrugia, Sasha Gacui and Charles Peressotify;”>.

Ryan Pisani registers his first Mens Ranking Win
Ryan Pisani fulfilled his dreams winning his first ever Mens’ Ranking Tournament. In a thrilling final Pisani edged Johan Attard 8-7. Both players were in good form and offered a great performance but Pisani managed to grab the decisive frame that awarded him his great first achievement in the open category. Thanks to this final both players booked a place in the Mens National Team that will be representing our country in the World Championships this coming July in Blackpool.

Joseph Psaila back to his old winning ways
Joseph Psaila returned to his old times winning modes clinching the Over 50’s db World Ranking Tournament No. 1. In the decisive final frame Psaila had the better of experienced Brian Grech and claimed an 8-7 victory. Thanks to this victory Psaila earned a place in the national team that will be representing our country in the World Championships being held in June in Blackpool England.

Dejan Grech clinch the Under 23s World Rank 1
Dejan Grech grabbed his second tournament of the season this time beating Scott Muscat in the final of the db World Ranking Tournament No.1. In the final Grech triumphed with a convincing 8-3 victory and jumped at the top of the category’s rankings list that will be awarding places for the national team that will be participating in the World Championships being held in Blackpool in July.
Liam Mifsud wins World Rank Tour 1
Liam Mifsud edged Haydn Magro 8-7 in the final of the db World Ranking Tournament No. 1. Both players produced great pool but Mifsud managed to snatch the decisive frame that awarded him his second title of the season after winning the Euro Rank 3 way back in November.
National Team Championships Fixtures
The Malta Pool Association will be setting the balls rolling of another great national team championships which will be its 31st edition since the foundation of the association way back in 1989. The championships will commence on Friday 3rd January.
Forty eight teams from all over the island will be offering their challenge to win their respective category. The association published the fixtures for the first round that will take us till the 2nd March. Round two will commence mid March.
Nordai Desira wins his first ever Ranking Tournament
Nordai Desira snatched the last frame of the Under 18’s Rank 4 final edging Liam Mifsud 8-7. Both players were in good form but young Nordai kept on his nerves and went on to win his first ever ranking tournament.
Thanks to this victory Desira secured a place in the category’s national Team A that will be representing Malta in the coming European Championships being held in our country between the 16th and 21st February.
Leon Azzopardi claims his second win of the season
Lean Azzopardi claimed his second ranking tournament victory of the season this time beating Scott Muscat 8-2 in the final. Azzopardi was in great shape and form and left no chances of return to Muscat who was not solid in his performance.
Azzopardi and Muscat booked a place in the Under 23’s Team A national team that will be representing our country in the European Championships being held in Malta between the 16th & 21st February at the Dolmen Hotel in Qawra.
