Neil Caruana won the second Under 18’s ranking tournament of the season. In a well balanced final Caruana edged youngster Nordai Desira 8-6. Thanks to this victory Caruana joined Steve Muscat at the top of the category’s ranking list from which the two national teams, representing Malta in the coming European Championships, will be chosen.
The third series of the db ranking tournaments will set its balls rolling on Thursday 24th October at St. George’s Band Club, Qormi. Not less than 156 players registered in the this event that includes four categories that will reach the climax with the finals scheduled on the 13th & 14th November.
All Games are being held at St. George’s Band Club, Qormi, and will commence on Thursday 24th October.
Forty four teams split in two categories will be participating in this new season’s Logografix Team Knockout competitions. Draws were made yesterday at St. George’s Band Club Qormi. Games will commence on Tuesday 22nd October and will reach the climax with the finals being scheduled on the 19th & 22nd November.
The association would like to remind all clubs that the home teams are to print the score sheets for home use.
Steve Muscat won the first ranking tournament of the Under 18’s category of the season. In a terrific final Muscat edged Liam Mifsud 8-7 in the final decisive frame. Mifsud started well and took a three frame lead but Muscat kept his nerves on, recovered well and kept his momentum to win the decisive frame.
An inspiring Dejan Grech conquered Ranking Tournament No. 1 of the Under 23’s category. A great performance saw Grech overwhelming current Under 23’s European Champion Scott Muscat in the final of the category. Grech opened with style producing three consecutive dishes and totaling six clearances at the end of the 8-2 victory. Scott had few occasions to recover but he will back to show his talent in the coming tournaments.

Veteran Marcel Micallef clinched the Over 50’s category first ranking tournament of the season. In the final Micallef edged Marco Bonello 8-7 in the final decisive frame. Both players produced a good performance with Bonello loosing great opportunities that could have switched the results to his advantage. Micallef kept steady and thanks to this victory booked a place in the categories national team that will be representing Malta in the coming European Championships being held in February in our country.
Anton Cuschieri opened the season on a positive note grabbing the first Mens Ranking Tournament of the season. Big Tony was in great form and shape and outclassed Kevin Mercieca with an 8-1 victory. Cuschieri took a four frame lead with Mercieca winning the fifth frame. The later had his chances to recover and get into the match but missing with the ex European Champion Cuschieri meant a no return and Big Tony went on to clinch the tournament and book a place in the National Team A that will be representing our country in the coming European Championships being held in our country between the 16th & 21st February 2020.

The second series of ranking tournaments will set its balls rolling on Wednesday 9th October at St. George’s Band Club, Qormi. Not less than 158 players will be contending the awards in four categories Mens, Under 18’s, Under 23’s and Over 50’s.
The winners of the Mens and Over 50’s categories will qualify in the respective national team that will be representing our country in the coming European Championships being held between the 16th and 21st February in Malta.
The Malta Pool Association yesterday held the draws of the first series of the db Euro Ranking Tournaments valid for the European Championships qualifications.
Not less than 151 players registered for this series of events which will include four categories Mens, Under 18’s, Under 23’s and Over 50’s. The tournament, being held at St. George’s Band Club Qormi, will commence on Monday 23rd September and will come to an end on Friday 5th October.
The Malta Pool Association would like to inform all club members that an urgent Extra Ordinary Meeting is being called on Tuesday 17th September at PL Fgura at 7.00 pm.
The meeting will discuss and vote for changes in the association’s constitution that will become effective with immediate effect. All club members are obliged to attend this important meeting.
Draws for the db Ranking Tournament No. 1 will take place after this meeting.
